Character Blog Hop

Hello everyone and welcome to my Character Blog Hop which I was lucky to be invited to take part in by the lovely Elaine S Moxon. She is  historical writer and creator of the ‘Wolf Spear Sagas’ set in Saxon England. So please take a look at her page and read about other writers characters and work.

So here is the character that I’ve chosen to tell you about

1) What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historical figure/person?

The name of my fictional character is Leigh-Anne Boorman. Although, she’s a totally fictional character, due to the book’s theme, I’ve based her loosely on Anne Boleyn’s characteristics.

2) When and where is the story set?

The story is set in there here and now. Being a local Yorkshire girl, I had to set it in York city centre around one of the two universities. To be honest it doesn’t take a genius to know which university I’ve used 😉

3) What should we know about him/her?

She is a 26 year old photographer who lives in York, but comes from Northamptonshire.  Leigh uses her sexuality in order to get her where she needs to be, but struggles with trying to be a good person too.  She is incredibly insecure and it’s that insecurity that is used against her. She feels the need to compete with those around her, so she can move away from being from a working class background. Her life is like a car crash and even she cannot seem to stop that lifestyle from consuming her.

4) What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?

Her main conflict is her own self belief. There’s a constant need to proof herself as more than what she thinks she is. The circle she mixes with have the wealth and money to do what they please and she’s desperate to be a part of that. She tries to compete with her richer best friend George. However George is her path to disaster and he uses his power to control and manipulate her. It’s George that leads Leigh to Harry Cobain and it’s a road to her own possibly destruction.

5) What is the personal goal of the character?

During a job as a holiday rep in Kos, Leigh found herself in so much trouble financially and caught up in drugs. This is where George came in to her life and he helped get her back on her feet and in their return to England, he helped her start her own business. This means that Leigh owes George a lot of money. So when George offers to clear that debt  if she seduces Harry Cobain, she snaps it up.

6) Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?

The Boleyn Effect and is only available on download on Amazon and Smashwords

7) When can we expect the book to be published?

It’s available to download now, but looking at an autumn realease of the paperback.

About deborahcfoulkes

I was born and bred in the Yorkshire market town of Selby, which is lucky enough to have an historic abbey church at its centre, also being a 30 minute car drive to famous York, I use every bit of that history to create new worlds. My degree is in History and English Lit, but my leaning is towards history. I have a fascination with the Tudors and I’ve been told by a University tutor, I have an unhealthy liking for Henry VIII. That said my area of expertise study wise is Matthew Hopkins and the so called witches of the 1600’s. Books have been a part of my life as far back as I can remember and I count Stephen King, James Herbert and the Brothers Grimms as my literary heroes. I have a fondness for the macabre and a weakness for the antagonist of any story. By day, I work in a public library and by night or days off, I am hitting the keys of my lovely blue laptop
